You Really Are What You Eat

You Really Are What You Eat

Today's food is too sweet and salty. A few days ago, I bought two bags of snacks at MUJI, but when I tried them at home, they were so salty I had to throw them away. It was a waste of money, but I simply couldn't eat them.

I once visited a famous dessert cafe. They displayed bagels, cakes, bread, and donuts filled with cream and cheese. Just looking at them made me feel queasy.I thought, 'Eating that would lead to an early death.'

Corporate analyst Lee Rae-hak states in "Industrial Map of Korea (2023)":
"The number of microorganisms in the human intestine is about 100 trillion, about twice the number of cells in the human body. 99% of human genes are determined by intestinal microbes."

The average life expectancy these days is about 85 years. However, when considering quality of life and the age up to which one can live healthily, I think this number would drop to at least below 80.

The saying 'you are what you eat' takes on a different meaning. The food we consume affects the environment of our intestinal microbes. The types and numbers of these microbes influence our genes.

Since genes govern our bodies, they ultimately control our lives. It's true that we are what we eat. That's why we need to eat healthy food.
