Happiness is Like a Shadow

We crave happiness.
We often blame the world and our circumstances for why we alone are unhappy.
The phrase "It's all my fault" was once popular.
But is it really your fault
That you weren't born into a good family?
That you couldn't attend a prestigious university?
That you don't have a great job?
This is too self-deprecating.If you're feeling unhappy now,
I hope you'll ponder what happiness really is.
Think back to when you were happy.
Consider how long those feelings of happiness lasted.Recall those memories of happiness:
The smell of night air walking out of the library late in college
The exhilarating feeling of passing your driver's test on the first try
The moment you confirmed your feelings for your wife
When your first child was born...Happiness wasn't far away.
It wasn't as difficult as reaching for the stars.
When you had the peace of mind to look at yourself,
It was always there, like a shadow.
