A Country Where Miracles Often Happen

Yesterday, I had an amazing experience on my way home from work. At a frustrating moment when all five lanes were jammed with cars waiting at a signal, I faintly heard a siren from behind. Casually glancing at the rearview mirror, I saw a white van with a green cross - an ambulance. It seemed to be rushing to save a patient or respond to an emergency. I thought how stressful it must be during rush hour, but then the siren grew louder.

To my surprise, cars in the first and second lanes started moving slightly to the sides, creating a new lane. I also had to move a bit over the center line to make way. It was like witnessing a miracle of the sea parting as a new lane opened up. This is the Republic of Korea, a country where you can experience such miracles.

Foreigners say they have unusual experiences in Korea. They can walk comfortably at night, leave smartphones worth over a million won on tables unattended, return lost cards found in department stores to information desks, and see people helping each other during highway accidents.

While we might feel envious when our cousin buys land, we show family love when difficulties arise. Our nation may growl at each other, but we unite in times of crisis. We're a country that wasn't absorbed by China or Mongolia, a country that doesn't bow to China or Japan, a country where miraculous things happen every day.
