 The word "digital literacy" frequently appeared in the work report I was listening to.

Literacy? What's that now...
Literacy originally meant language comprehension, but in the transition to the digital age, it seems that the multimodal learning ability (ability to process various forms of information such as images, videos, audio) required for artificial intelligence is also being applied to humans.
Media literacy, digital literacy, data literacy, economic literacy, information literacy... It seems like literacy is being attached to every field now.It's said that about 700 new words are born in the United States alone each year.
Examples of recently active words include 3D printer, drone, metaverse, edge computing, quantum computing, blockchain technology, digital transformation, cybersecurity mesh, hyperautomation, and many other words that are difficult to understand unless you're an expert.These days, due to the development of information and communication technology, we can easily obtain desired materials, but we're experiencing the side effect of information overload or infodemic, where there's too much information causing confusion.That's why artificial intelligence technology has emerged as an alternative. As AI technology develops, humanity has been able to greatly reduce the time for complex calculations or data collection. On the other hand, many people are becoming indifferent or giving up on fields that are too difficult. And as we move into an era where we acquire information through videos rather than sentences, there are phenomena where people avoid sentences and have somewhat lower comprehension of them. I think that's why the word literacy is emerging.The ability to understand and interpret various information is the domain of experts. Based on in-depth knowledge, they analyze the past and present and predict the future with insight. Rather than the accuracy, what's being accepted as an important ability is whether they're making rational and valid arguments. Bill Gates made an outrageous claim that a great plague could break out for humanity before the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. And in 2019, humanity re-evaluated Bill Gates. It must have been because Bill had the literacy to predict the future.The study of artificial intelligence started from numerical analysis. It's a mathematical model that predicts what will happen in the future by arranging known data in time series. Literacy refers to the ability to move towards insight, like numerical analysis.
