Charming People

 "Charming People"

The SBS Special Production Team once conducted a project called "Unlocking the Secrets of Success." Ms. Lee Eun-ah and Ms. Lee Si-an published the contents of the project as a book titled "Charming DNA." Nobel laureate in economics in 2002, Professor Daniel Kahneman, stated that the determining factor of success is not ability, diligence, or luck, but rather likability, or charm. That's right, charm.

Charm doesn't merely refer to appearance. Cleopatra and Yang Guifei, who seduced the heroes of their time, were not actually the beauties we imagine. Cleopatra was an intellectual woman capable of engaging in conversations with any powerful figure or learned individual, and Yang Guifei had a charm that captivated people through dance and music.

Recently, Professor Narini Ambady of the Psychology Department at Tufts University in the United States announced that there is a way to determine whether a person is successful or not just by looking at their face. It's all there in their appearance. People usually make judgments about first impressions in less than 10 seconds. In a survey conducted by Job Korea, it was found that facial expression accounted for 74%, appearance for 49.6%, and external appearance for 40.2% of what determines a first impression. If appearance accounted for about 55%, then voice was at 38%, and the content of conversation was at 7%. Successful people instinctively emit charm in that short period of time.

The charm of former US President Obama, who caused a sensation worldwide, was attributed to his vibrant manner of speaking, the content of his speeches, and his energetic gestures in front of the public. Moreover, the fact that he had a dark past also had a significant impact. Just as in the stories of heroes throughout history, there was always adversity. Figures like Hiddink and Yoo Jae-suk are known for radiating charm through sincerity and humor. Their exceptional ability to encourage their players and colleagues to discover their strengths and gain confidence was remarkable. Similarly, for figures like Lee Hyori and Kim Yuna, their candidness displayed even in the spotlight maximized their charm. Herb Kelleher of Southwest Airlines only hires humorous employees. He firmly believes that joy in the workplace leads to success. When employees pooled money together to run a gratitude advertisement for the company's boss, it was a decisive example that his management philosophy was correct.

Dr. Gardner says that humans have multiple intelligences: linguistic intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, spatial intelligence, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, musical intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence, and naturalistic intelligence. Many people excel in studying, sports, music, or acting. However, that doesn't necessarily guarantee success for them all. Charm... in other words, interpersonal intelligence, is what is needed to overflow with customers and fans. You are not unhappy because you study poorly, have a bad job, or a low salary. It's because you're not doing what you love. Doing what you love creates passion. Energy, joy, and confidence arise from that. And you need to attract the customers of life who will receive that energy well. Brian Tracy says, "The purpose of conversation is listening." Care, respect, and humility towards others are what complete interpersonal intelligence, as important as you are.
